The KBVR-TV Locals Live Producer is responsible for coordinating and producing weekly live TV broadcast of the music show Locals Live for KBVR-TV. This includes live 30 minute TV shows broadcast on channel 26 and online, and the uploading of full episodes and online exclusive content to KBVR’s online platforms, including YouTube and Facebook.

The Locals Live producer ensures student staff, crew members, and volunteers are held to the highest ethical and professional standards and practices. The producer builds others up through mentoring, coaching and supporting, while also managing and directing work.

The producer follows OMN policies and procedures to recruit, lead and supervise student staff and volunteers while advancing Orange Media Network’s reputation for excellence as a welcoming, engaging and inclusive organization.

 

Pay Rate: $159 per episode

 

Qualifications:

  • Comfortable shooting and editing video
  • Knowledgeable about live studio production

  • Knowledgeable of how to create video content and able and interested in learning to create content for all media platforms

  • Meets university eligibility requirements, including but not limited to:
    • Must be currently enrolled at Oregon State University for at least 6 academic credits
    • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0
    • Must remain in a good academic standing from the term prior to selection and during the entire period of employment
  • Due to ongoing COVID-19 response needs, some responsibilities in this position description may need to be adjusted to comply with evolving health and safety expectations that are unknown at the time of this posting. Examples may include: studio and other facility use, social distancing requirements, and the need to conduct work remotely or on-site. The successful applicant will be adaptable to this changing environment.

 

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

  • Has previously been a paid staff member or crew member of KBVR-TV. Locals Live experience is a plus.
  • Previous experience with music production
  • Prior attendance and participation in OMN Boot Camp

 

Responsibilities:

  • KBVR-TV Locals Live Producer Responsibilities
    • Create and oversee content for a live, 30 minute television series, Locals Live, that airs every week on KBVR-TV during the acadmic year
    • Shows will air on Fridays beginning no later than 6 p.m. Exact dates to be determined by TV Station Manager
    • Work with station manager to coordinate with bands, musicians, and other musical artists to appear as performers on this weekly live music TV show
    • Curate a variety of artists and musical genres on the show
    • Coordinate with station manager and OMN professional staff in the setup and coordination of these live musical performances to ensure a shared use of OMN facilities
    • Ensure all artists sign and return a performance agreement prior to the performance. The agreement will cover rules and policies about FCC, lyrics, conduct, and other rules
    • Ensure artist provide lyrics for their set 48 hours in advance of show. This is to ensure lyrics are FCC-clean and to assist with captioning
    • Shows must first air live on channel 26 and live online streaming
    • Ensure all shows are properly staffed with dedicated crew members (director, TD, cameras, audio, etc.)
    • Cut a short video tease for each episode, with airtimes and how to watch, to air on channel 26 and be shared on social media. Must be complete and shared with TV Station Manager 24 hours prior to live broadcast
    • Use Inception software to build a detailed rundown for each episode, and share rundown with the crew and station manager
    • When live show is completed, optimize show for YouTube and upload to KBVR-TV YouTube page within 24 hours and properly label it with appropriate title, description, tags, and cover image
    • Responsible for ensuring all videos (both broadcast and online) have complete and accurate open captioning. Provide full scripts lyrics, transcripts and prep material to station manager no later than 24 hours before airtime to ensure live captioners can review and ensure accuracy
    • Create and tend to a regular social media promotion schedule under the direction of the TV station manager and marketing
    • Ensure all content on KBVR-TV (channel 26, online, and social media) is accurate, fair, engaging, and of high technical and ethical quality prior to broadcast or upload
    • Share links to live stream on social media prior to every live broadcast. Send link to each TV team member, crew member, and all guests on the shows. Share the link to the live stream with all show guests prior to every live broadcast
    • Share links to full episodes on YouTube immediately following the broadcast
    • Produce at least one remote segment, this can include packages shot on location outside the studio, and segments/shows aired live from locations outside the studio using remote fiber hookups
    • Create one evergreen PSA or promo to air during KBVR productions
    • Grow audience engagement
    • Work to ensure that OMN program content is current, relevant, and consistent with OMN’s mission, vision, and policies
    • Ensure that you and your staff complete all OMN surveys
    • Check and respond to BaseCamp for project management
    • Act in a professional manner at all times and create and maintain collegial working relationships with fellow student leaders and organization members
    • Attend all cohort meetings
    • Other duties as assigned by the adviser and Director
  • Communication
    • Respond to emails, pings and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN
    • Notify adviser and the Director of OMN immediately should any ethical, legal, personnel or controversial problems occur
  • Collaboration
    • Hold and post regular office hours each week for Orange Media Network, at least half of which should be during regular business hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday - Friday). Hours may vary during different stages of the term
    • Ensure KBVR-TV fully participates in all OMN events, including OMN Open House, Housing Fair and Launch parties
    • Attend the OMN Student Fee Committee presentations
    • Work with marketing team to develop and implement marketing strategies for KBVR-TV and OMN
    • Meet weekly with marketing to review social media posts, strategize, and plan, to increase social media engagement
  • Leadership
    • Be an approachable leader within the OMN organization, capable of seeing things from the 5,000-foot level and representing the entire organization as needed
    • Hold staff accountable to their position descriptions and expectations, and publicly acknowledge and celebrate accomplishment and growth at all levels of the organization
    • Be an enthusiastic leader and representative of OMN
    • Ensure that all students are given opportunities to grow and try new roles, positions and leadership opportunities. Collaborate with adviser on new ways for staff to advance in their skills
    • Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to the KBVR-TV staff
    • Attendance must be reliable and punctual
  • Hiring and payroll
    • Hire staff in consultation with adviser. Disciplinary action must be approved by adviser, based on University Human Resources guidelines and following OMN’s 3-strike process
    • Follow hiring process and immediately report all new hires and volunteers to the Assistant to the Director for Operations Support so that they can complete payroll forms and obtain card access
    • Confirm with professional staff that all new team members have completed onboarding process and required trainings prior to assigning work
  • Delegate
    • Responsible for all duties delegated to staff in their position descriptions
  • Policies and Procedures
    • Follow all OMN policies and procedures and hold all staff and volunteers to all OMN policies and procedures
    • Be a collaborator with fellow OMN leaders in the shared use of facilities and equipment
    • Be good stewards of OMN resources by ensuring that OMN equipment is only used for OMN work
    • Alert professional staff immediately on issues with equipment
    • Proactively collaborate with adviser on anticipating and resolving issues with student staff, productions, participants, guests, readers, listeners, and viewers
