Orange Media Network (OMN) Creative Design Associate 2021 -2022

The Creative Design Associate is responsible for creating images, layouts, videos, photos, and other designs. You work collaboratively, as part of a creative team, on all graphic design, video, and photo projects for OMN, including but not limited to advertising designs, promotional graphics and videos, client videos, magazine and newspaper layouts, infographics, motion graphics for video, web and social media graphics.

The position includes (1) collaboration with other graphic designers, non-designers, journalists, photographers, (2) training on basic and advanced skills, (3) project management and (4) working and communicating with clients.

Pay Rate:
•Onboarding: 5 hours per week at $12.75 per hour
•Full Start: Average 10-15 hours per week at $13.50 per hour

NOTE: All positions and hours remain contingent on funding availability for the 2021-2022 academic year

Qualifications:
•Is proficient in using Adobe Creative Cloud (including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere) and is willing to learn
•Able to think creatively and innovatively
•Has an eye for visual composition
•Has the ability and interest in learning to create content for all media platforms
•Is able to manage time effectively and can meet deadlines
•Is able to build and maintain relationships with partners, clients, collaborators and the community
•Is able to communicate with others (e.g., clients, coworkers, partners) and is comfortable with speaking in public
•Has an understanding of marketing, advertising and multimedia design
•Is organized and reliable
•Is comfortable giving and receiving feedback
•Able to remain professional and calm when working with difficult individuals and situations
•Is adaptable to a changing environment. Due to ongoing COVID-19 response needs, some responsibilities in this position description may need to be adjusted to comply with evolving health and safety expectations that are unknown at the time of this posting. Examples may include: studio and other facility use, social distancing requirements, and the need to conduct work remotely or on-site.
•Meets university eligibility requirements, including but not limited to:
    •Must be currently enrolled at Oregon State University for at least 6 academic credits
    •Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0
    •Must remain in a good academic standing from the term prior to selection and during the entire period of employment•Must complete all elements on On-Boarding Curriculum

Responsibilities:
Creative Design Associate Responsibilities
•Design advertisements for local businesses for web, print and social media; build infographics for news publications in print and online; marketing and promotional graphics for OMN, including posters, flyers, T-shirts, social media, and motion graphics for video
•Design newspaper/magazine covers or pages as directed by the Creative Lead and/or adviser
•Consult, train and assist on publication layouts for Baro, Prism and DAMchic, in coordination with your student lead and the respective editor-in-chief(s)
•Meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects while meeting the needs of Baro, KBVR FM, KBVR TV, Prism, DAMchic, Beaver's Digest, marketing, and OMN, as a whole
•Attend production meetings for Baro, DAMchic, Beaver’s Digest and Prism
•Ensure all design work has been reviewed by copy editors before publishing
•Ensure all publication design has been reviewed by clients, Creative Lead and other OMN designers before publishing
•Participate in design reviews and accept feedback and critiques from student leaders, other OMN designers and advisers
•Collaborate closely with others on projects including designers, journalists, photographers, editors, marketers and student leaders
•Advise and assist with the work of other OMN students on their design
•Attend weekly cohort meetings and all trainings
•Hold and post 5 -10 regular office hours each week for Orange Media Network, at least half of these hours should be during regular business hours (8 a.m. –5 p.m., Monday -Friday). Hours may vary during different stages of the term
•Grow audience engagement
•Work to ensure that OMN program content is current, relevant, and consistent with OMN’s mission, vision, and policies
•Ensure that you complete all OMN surveys and meet all deadlines
•Act in a professional manner at all times and create and maintain collegial working relationships with fellow student leaders, organization members, sources, stakeholders, partners, collaborators and the community
•Other duties as assigned by the adviser

Communication
•Respond to emails, messages, team chats and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN
•Notify adviser immediately should any ethical, legal, personnel or controversial problems occur.

Policies and Procedures
•Follow all OMN policies and procedures and hold all staff and volunteers to all OMN policies and procedures

•Be good stewards of OMN resources by ensuring that OMN equipment is only used for OMN work
•Alert professional staff immediately on issues with equipment
